Austin came in sixth.
What's the main appeal of these places? Jobs, cost of living, schools, and lifestyle.
Houston’s popularity was based upon a thriving job market, with the metro area growing to a total population of 6.7 million. Conroe was cited as the fastest-growing city in the U.S.
Beyond the traditionally robust oil-and-gas market, major drivers of Houston jobs include biotech, infotech, aerospace, medical, and the services industry.
